Sensors in your pocket

In the event will show what a smartphone can do with its sensors and you will have the chance to try how to measure and draw simple conclusions.

Smartphones are now in everyone's pocket and the apps they run can be used to perform a range of tasks easily and efficiently, from sending messages through taking photos to ordering pizzas. These apps also often profile the user's habits, both for ease of use and to tailor advertising and offers. It makes us wonder what else they do! The phone has a number of sensors to measure position, environmental parameters (current speed, acceleration, magnetic field values, brightness, temperature). The phone can then process the sensor data locally, for example to serve as a compass, or to let the map app tell you whether you're cycling or walking. The research behind this presentation is focusing on whether the collected data can be used to a biometrical identification of the user.
